DescriptionWindow tax was levied from 1696 until 1851. The form and rates of the tax varied over the years but consisted of a flat rate house tax (until 1834) with an additional amount from 1778. An additional window tax was charged if a house had ten or more windows between 1696 and 1766, seven or more windows between 1766 and 1825 and eight or more windows between 1825 and 1851. The documents listed below are examples for the period 1751-1754 and are not complete.
