Welcome to LANCAT

LANCAT is the online catalogue for Lancashire Archives in Preston and the North West Sound Archive in Clitheroe.

It contains over 900,000 descriptions of archives which you can search by keyword using the 'Search' field above. You can also browse through collections by clicking the Reference Number in individual search results.

The 'Advanced Search' search field gives you more options, particularly that to limit your search to Lancashire Archives or North West Sound Archive.

By clicking on 'Showcase' you will find examples of the kind of collections held at Lancashire Archives, including some of the most significant, whilst the 'Image Gallery' enables you to see a very small sample of items from our holdings.

If you find details of something you want to see or hear, here's what to do:

Lancashire Archives

Please see the Visiting Us section for information on coming to Lancashire Archives, or Our Services if you want to receive a copy or have someone research on your behalf. You can always contact Lancashire Archives if you cannot find a reference to what you are looking for, and think it is something we may have.

North West Sound Archive

You need to make an appointment to listen to material at the archive in Clitheroe. Copies of sound archives can be provided in most circumstances. Please contact the North West Sound Archive at nwsa@lancashire.gov.uk if you want to explore these options.
